Clarifying recent misunderstandings, the Chief Justice explained that the Supreme Court had not previously declined to hear the concerns related to the protests because no formal petition had been submitted. Only a representation had been received, which does not fulfill the legal criteria required to initiate judicial proceedings. This distinction was crucial in understanding the court’s procedural stance.
Following the formal filing of new petitions that allege police excesses during the demonstrations on July 20, the Supreme Court has agreed to schedule a hearing for these cases on Monday. This development underscores the court’s commitment to addressing grievances brought before it in accordance with the law.
The Chief Justice also took the opportunity to caution against misleading reports suggesting that the court had previously refused to consider the matter. He emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, which plays a critical role in public perception and trust in judicial processes.
