Barapullah Phase III Corridor Opens in Delhi on September 29

Date:

The long-anticipated Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor in Delhi is set to open on September 29, promising to enhance connectivity between Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, and Noida, as well as key areas in South Delhi. This development is expected to significantly reduce travel times across the region.

The new 3.5-kilometer stretch will link Mayur Vihar Phase I with Sarai Kale Khan, seamlessly integrating with the existing Barapullah corridor. This connection aims to provide a largely signal-free route towards South Delhi, cutting travel time from the current 35–40 minutes to approximately 15 minutes, subject to traffic conditions.

Key features of the four-lane corridor include a bridge over the Yamuna River, nine traffic-distribution loops, connecting ramps, a dedicated cycle track, and pedestrian facilities. These additions are designed to improve overall traffic flow and commuter experience in the area.

Initially approved in 2014, the project faced numerous delays due to hurdles like land acquisition issues, construction challenges, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which collectively extended the timeline. The cost of the project has also escalated from an initial estimate of ₹1,260 crore to around ₹1,635 crore.

With major components like the Yamuna bridge and connecting ramps completed, final preparations are underway to ensure the corridor opens as scheduled. Officials anticipate that this new infrastructure will alleviate traffic congestion and bolster connectivity across the region, providing a much-needed transit solution for Delhi’s residents.
