In a bid to contest the results of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, Arya Singh and her father, Rakesh Singh, have traveled from Kanpur to Delhi to protest outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) headquarters. Their demonstration comes after the NTA dismissed claims that some candidates’ exam scores were altered. Arya Singh alleges that her initial score of 570 marks was inexplicably reduced to 167 following the announcement of results. Despite her protests, the NTA maintains that the discrepancies are due to fabricated images circulating online.
The controversy erupted when several candidates, including Arya, alleged that their OMR answer sheets did not reflect their declared scores. The NTA has firmly denied these accusations, asserting that the images appearing on social media are either manipulated or artificially generated, and do not match the agency’s official records. They emphasize that all original OMR sheets are consistent with the scores announced, safeguarded by secure identifiers like barcodes and QR codes.
Arya Singh contends that the OMR sheet she received from the NTA contained significant errors, such as a missing question number and duplicate serial numbers. After raising these issues, she was reportedly given another OMR sheet, which showed a revised score of 609 marks. Dissatisfied with the NTA’s explanation, her father, Rakesh Singh, who is a former soldier, has vowed to continue the protest until satisfactory answers are provided. He has also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene, citing irregularities in the examination process.
The current uproar is set against the backdrop of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, conducted on June 21 after the original exam was canceled in May due to allegations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation is currently probing these claims. Meanwhile, Arya and her father remain firm in their demand for transparency and accountability from the NTA, as they camp outside its office seeking justice.
