Putin to Modi and Xi: Let’s Build a World Free from ‘Discriminatory’ Pressure

As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to meet with both Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping at the SCO Summit, the Russian leader has issued an implicit invitation: let’s work together to build a world free from “discriminatory” Western pressure. His pre-summit statements lay out a clear agenda for these crucial bilateral talks.
Putin’s primary grievance is with the “discriminatory sanctions” from the US and EU, which he argues are designed to stifle the growth of major emerging powers like those in the BRICS bloc (Russia, India, and China). He will almost certainly seek a common front with Modi on this issue, reinforcing the idea of BRICS solidarity.
To back up his vision, Putin points to the success of the Russia-China relationship, which has reached an “unprecedented level.” He highlights their booming, de-dollarized trade as a tangible example of how countries can create a prosperous future by working together outside the Western-dominated financial system.
