Pralhad Joshi Takes Over Role of India’s Education Minister

Date:

Pralhad Joshi has officially assumed additional duties as India’s Education Minister, marking the beginning of his tenure with an evaluation of significant educational schemes and a focus on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Upon taking office at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi, Joshi engaged with senior officials from the Departments of School Education and Higher Education to gain insight into the ministry’s current initiatives.

Recognizing education as a new area for him, Joshi expressed that he would need some time to fully comprehend the intricacies of the ministry before offering detailed commentary. He emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure continuity in the major educational programs already in place.

Joshi highlighted that this responsibility was entrusted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He acknowledged the importance of understanding the department’s operations thoroughly to effectively oversee the education sector.

The transition in leadership occurred after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of the former Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. With this change, Joshi’s role in the ministry is expected to focus on continuing and enhancing the educational reforms outlined in the NEP 2020.
