Modi’s Independent Foreign Policy Statement Praised by China

Date:

China has expressed approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments on India’s independent foreign policy, following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to foster a partnership and mutual development, as highlighted by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. He emphasized that India’s relations with China would remain uninfluenced by external countries, a sentiment that Beijing highly values.

President Xi Jinping acknowledged the differing national circumstances between China and India but stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation while managing differences through mutual respect and understanding. This bilateral dialogue comes amid longstanding tensions along the Line of Actual Control, with both countries striving to prevent their differences from escalating into disputes.

Indian authorities have reiterated that maintaining peace and stability along their shared border is crucial for advancing bilateral ties. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the necessity of adhering to existing agreements and understandings related to border issues, signaling India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of disputes.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of pursuing a fair and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary dispute, aiming to resolve lingering issues amicably. This dialogue follows an agreement reached in October 2024, where India and China agreed to disengage troops from several friction points in the Ladakh sector, a significant step toward easing the prolonged military standoff between the two nations.
