IndiGo Increases Fuel Surcharges Due to Rising Aviation Fuel Costs

Date:

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has announced it will increase fuel charges on all domestic and international flights for bookings made from October 6, 2026. This decision comes in response to a significant rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which have seen a month-on-month increase of over 14% in recent months. The airline cited these higher fuel costs as a major factor in escalating its operating expenses.

For domestic travel, the revised fuel charges will be structured based on the distance of the journey. Passengers flying up to 500 km will face a fuel charge of ₹375, while those traveling distances of over 2,000 km will incur a charge of ₹1,300. Intermediate charges include ₹600 for flights up to 1,000 km, ₹900 for distances between 1,001 km and 1,500 km, and ₹1,150 for routes up to 2,000 km.

International travelers will also see changes in fuel surcharges. Flights on SAARC routes up to 500 km will have a charge of ₹1,000, while longer SAARC routes will see a charge of ₹3,000. Flights bound for Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, North Asia, and East Asia will incur a ₹5,500 fuel charge. Journeys to Africa will see a ₹6,000 charge, and those to Europe will face a ₹10,000 charge.

IndiGo noted that the adjustment in fuel charges is intended to partially offset the increased operating costs caused by the rising ATF prices while maintaining a balance to minimize the impact on passengers. The airline has committed to continuing to monitor fuel prices and market conditions closely.
