The state of Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents starting from October 1. This requirement is part of the government’s efforts to enhance identity verification and prevent fraudulent activities in property transactions.
The new rule applies to 63 types of registrations, including property sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds. According to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the initiative aims to curb issues such as impersonation and fake documentation, while minimizing human intervention in the registration process.
Individuals without an Aadhaar number will need to provide proof of having applied for one, along with other government-issued identity documents. The information submitted will undergo verification before the transaction can be finalized.
The government has also introduced special provisions for minors and certain eligible categories. Specifically, children who do not possess an Aadhaar number will not be excluded from property registration benefits solely due to the lack of this identification number.
Officials state that these measures are intended to make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving administrative processes related to property dealings in Maharashtra.
