Protesters Vow Unending Resistance as Tesla Project Gains Council Nod

Date:

Adelaide protestors are vowing unending resistance against the proposed Tesla factory, even as the Marion city council has given its initial approval. The “Trees not Teslas” movement, a vocal and determined opposition group, has announced its firm intention to continue the fight, ensuring the project’s journey to completion will be arduous.
The contentious Tesla showroom and battery recycling and repurposing plant has ignited a firestorm of local opposition. A striking 95% of nearly 1,000 public submissions to the council were against the proposal, with many explicitly expressing “anti-Tesla and anti-Elon Musk sentiment” alongside environmental concerns.
Despite this overwhelming community disapproval, the Marion city council voted to advance the project to the state government for final approval. Council members cited the potential for 100 new jobs and millions of dollars in revenue for the community as key drivers for their decision, suggesting that blocking the project in Marion would simply lead Tesla to set up shop elsewhere.
However, “Trees not Teslas” remains undeterred. The group argues that the public consultation process felt like a mere formality, given the council’s vote despite the strong public outcry. The focus now shifts to the state government, which will have the final say on the development, setting the stage for a continued and potentially escalating battle between local activism and corporate expansion.
